August 27, 2020: The Honorable Prime Minister Imran Khan showed a keen interest in P@SHA’s proposed idea of the Special Technology Zones (#STZs).
Chairman P@SHA, Shahzad Shahid along with the CEC Member/Chair of PM’s IT Sub Task-Force, Syed Ahmad represented the IT Sector in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by Minister for Information Technology, Syed Aminul Haq, Minister for Information, Senator Shibli Faraz, Minister for Industries, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Advisers Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Abdul Razzak Dawood, Special Assistant Dr Shahbaz Gill, federal secretaries, Chairman FBR, Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and representatives of various companies belonging to the IT sector.
Chairman P@SHA emphasized the importance of Special Technology Zones which will be different from the existing industrial era Special Economic Zones in the country for the goods sector. The STZs will be specific for the IT sector and its laws laid out under the forthcoming STZ Act will promote the ecosystem for the IT and ITES companies.
The second proposal was the “Export Marketing Fund” which will be used to promote “Brand Pakistan” by having Pakistan included in the international reports as a favorable destination for offshore services and outsourcing. The fund will also help companies in participating in conferences and exhibitions abroad. The EMF will also be used for industry-wide survey and report which is imperative for foreign businesses and investors to look at while forming their new strategies and choosing new markets.
